Graphic design at KASK & Conservatorium is structured around five specific focuses: Visual Identity, Publication, Digital Publication, Experimental Typography, and Data Visualization. Each of these focuses begins with a specific expertise, nourished, reinforced and supported by the other focuses. Students are encouraged to transcend the classic division between print (publication, poster, flyer, etc.) and digital media (websites, mobile applications and so on), in order to seek out the relationship between the two in our post-digital world.

Visual identity is directed towards communications with graphic media and visual concepts that cover diverse carriers, including house styles, brochures, signing, websites, online communications, social media, design for public space, and so on. It is a field aimed towards broader cultural identity, rather than individual corporate identity.

Publication focuses on the graphic concept, the design and the production of publications. The publications domain stretches out across a broad gamut of products, including books, magazines, newspapers, brochures and so on.

Digital Publication considers and experiments with the possibilities of publication in digital environments. It offers graphic designers the instruments and the mental frameworks for creative immersion in the digital and/or interactive media.

Experimental Typography is aimed at the conception and execution of letters and/or lettertypes for actual use in students’ design practices.

Data Visualization makes an emphatic link between the world of graphic design and that of information and communications technology, and investigates the problems involved in the visualization of knowledge and information evolved from, or with a focus on, concrete data.

Students build on their artistic and communications potential in the service of their individual development, thanks to a critical and investigative working method, conceiving substantial, meaningful and strong projects, delving into the interaction between analogue and digital media, and reinforcing and strengthening all of this with the design of that entire range, translated into the broad-spectrum of media: books, catalogues, websites, magazines, newspapers, posters, flyers, folders, mobile applications, etc.
