In this lecture Hadassah Emmerich discusses the relationship between identity and the artwork from her experience. Since 1996 Emmerich has regularly visited Indonesia. She studied for a period at the academy of Bandung and got to know her father's country of birth. From then on various projects followed, such as a commission for a monumental mural in the Dutch Embassy in Jakarta. Emmerich asks herself questions about her identity and how these can be visualised through her work. For example, does she learns about herself while learning about her country of origin and what does this mean for her work? In what way can an internal search be externalized through the artwork and how does the search for form influence the search for identity and vice versa?
