Spring 2018 will see the release of the very first solo CD by pianist, musicologist and philosopher Waldo Geuns. The disc includes compositions and music by Enrique Granados (18671916). This ‘Spanish Chopin’ is famous for his Goyescas piano series. The extremely virtuoso and fantasy- filled elements of this collection were inspired by the paintings of Francisco Goya. In this very Spanish music, more than once, we see dances such as the Aragon jota or the Andalusian flamenco or canto hondo pass by. This music is pure poetry, and Waldo has moreover coupled an explanatory publication to the CD: who was this composer? Where did he get his inspiration? How does his beloved Spain reverberate in his music? During this recital, Waldo will not only be playing the Goyescas, but he also tells what Granados had in mind with this fiery and passionate music, and how the melodies from this collection became worldfamous, thanks to the international hit, Bésame Mucho, by the Mexican composer Consuelo Velázquez.
