03.12.19—20:30    Splendor (Ettore Scola, 1989, 110’) KASKcinema

Although this almost two-hour-long love letter to cinema was ahead of its time, Splendor is staying in the shadow of similar classics. This unfortunate context can be extended to the historical frame of the film itself: with the rise of television in the 1960s, many local cinemas are less and less prominent in the spotlight. So does Splendor, the cinema that took over the main character Jordan (Marcello Mastroianni) from his father. Together with the French show girl Chantal (Marina Vlady), who will be working as a caretaker in the cinema and the cinephile projectionist Luigi (Massimo Troisi), Jordan inevitably feels his life's work slip into the abyss. Fortunately, the dramatic closing of Jordan's great love turns out to be the perfect excuse to make us dream away in a cinephile way - through countless film references - to all the splendour and splendour that cinema has ever produced. The film will be  introduced by Kinoautomat
