2020 - 2021: how will the academic year start?

In September you will start studying at KASK & Conservatorium, after passing the admission test of course. Maybe after this very unusual corona spring you will wonder what that new academic year will look like.

On campus education

In the new academic year, we want to offer as much education on campus as possible in the new academic year. As much physical education as possible within the boundaries of what is safe. The final decisions will be made in August or September, but a few principles can give you an idea.

In art education, studio practice is central. That is why from September 2020 we want to have contact-rich campuses, where our students are physically welcome to take classes, work and meet each other, formally and informally. It is very likely that social distancing, wearing mouth masks and regular hand washing will still be part of everyday reality. In this way we take care of each other and make education on campus possible.

Welcome Weeks

We are expanding the number of physical reception days for new students: the traditional welcome week will last two weeks, from 14 to 25 September. Because of the spread over a longer period of time, you will all be able to discover campuses and courses in a safe way.

Start of classes

Classes will start on Monday 28 September.

Combination with digital education

If the current corona measures are not relaxed, the capacity of some classrooms will still be limited during the first semester. In that case, some teachers will offer a combination of physical and digital lessons and agreements will be made for certain practice rooms or studios about who can be present and when. This does not alter the fact that you will be expected on campus on a very regular basis.

Artistic activities

Studying at KASK & Conservatorium means choosing more than just your studies. Our campuses are vibrant places full of artistic activities. You will also be able to immerse yourself in them in the coming academic year. KASKcinema reopens on 1 July with summer screenings in the gardens of the Bijloke Campus and MIRY Concertzaal has its new concert season in the making. The rest of our artistic activities will also get off to a flying start as soon as they can receive you safely. The KASKcafé, the Art Library and the other support facilities for students will welcome you once again. Our website and newsletter will keep you up to date with the programme!
