19.02.26 – 02.03.26, Clémence Ledent, Een celebratie van de gang als overgang
The index finger glides across the page. The paper is rather rough, a little dry and textured. Not ideal for the skin of this pointing instrument, which begins to soothe itself through friction. Still, it doesn't really matter, because he is already at the bottom of the page. He stops. Seems intrigued by the blank line between the two mammoth paragraphs on the page. It divides the two-dimensional surface into almost two identical blocks of text. The text is aligned on both sides, which certainly emphasises the mass of words. The finger seems to shudder a little.
This time, the hand begins to fidget between the printed lines with a pencil. Is it looking for something? With determination, it draws a firm line under a series of words, a sign of an important sentence. The line pulls the words out of the alignment frame, creeping underneath it. The underlining ends in a pointed hat, the arrow, which in turn wants to point something out. The hand moves across the entire page. It scans the letters, punctuation and spaces left behind. Cleanly printed paper, smooth and tightly bound, becomes a chaotic conversation between pen and page.
Why that emptiness in such a printed work? Is it the necessary space for possible flights of fancy to find a place somewhere? Fleeting thoughts that want to roll out as quickly as possible, causing the curly letters to sometimes deform into their language-less essence. Curling ornaments that come to decorate the page. A place of transition, for the mind, to express itself briefly before entering the new paragraph.HOORGANG
HOORGANG is an exhibition space for sound in the hallway of the Kunstenbibliotheek. This long, narrow passageway—a place that is used every day—is being given a second function: in addition to being a passageway, from this year onwards you will also be able to listen there at certain times.
The space has distinctive and unpredictable acoustics and is far from a classic listening environment. That is precisely where its potential lies. HOORGANG invites creators to work from this specific context and develop in situ projects that respond to the architecture, the rhythm of passers-by, and the acoustic properties of the corridor.
The format is open to students from all disciplines who want to work with sound. From sound installations to music albums played on loop here — HOORGANG offers a place where experimentation and presentation come together, and where chance passers-by can discover new sounds.
HOORGANG is a DIY initiative: there is no structural support, only the space itself. This minimal framework allows for maximum freedom and encourages students to actively explore the possibilities of the place.
