Are those he who have no worries carefree? On the contrary. Even though we do not like to worry too much, if we could not care at all for friends, neighbours, animals, plants, and the world around us, our lives would feel meaningless. Caring is also caring for yourself, for your body, your desires and your ideals. For this, we draw inspiration from thinkers such as Foucault and Frankfurt.

‘We should see democracy as the distribution of care responsibilities’ writes political philosopher Joan Tronto. But then, according to her, we need to be clear about what we are talking about when we talk about care. What is care? Who needs care? How do we organise care for the elderly? How do we become aware of racism in care?

And what can art do in care?

Join us in thinking about the theme of Care during Philosophy Day 2025.

We are planning another day full of lectures, debates, talks, workshops, interviews and art. During the breaks, you can speed-date with philosophers or share your concerns with our godfather Jean Paul Van Bendegem and godmother Alicja Gescinska in their philosophical salon. You can also visit our philosophical consultant. Or nestle down with a new book from our book stand in the café.
