21.05.25, 20:30, De Zon, ‘t Bladtjen en het Water, In dialogue with Guido Gezelle

't Er viel 'ne keer een bladtjen in het water.

Guido Gezelle's impact on poetry is undeniable. With an eye for the wonders of nature and an ear for the beauty of the Dutch language, this jack-of-all-trades was able to distil a divine presence from everyday life. On this evening of poetry, music and film, his lyrical legacy will be honoured through a range of art forms. However, Gezelle's Flemish roots will be explored and brought into dialogue with more global influences. Iranian poetry and contemporary reflections will thus resonate in the soundscape.

Lifted by the winged words of Guido Gezelle, we take a walk in the Bijloke Garden. There, we honour the elements and the transience of the seasons with a performance by Fleur Perneel, Ehsan Yadollahi and Marijs Kempynck. When evening casts its soft light over the cinema, we are swept into the film theatre by the poetry of Paul Demets. We conclude with the film Zie, zie, zie (See, see, see) – the result of a magical journey undertaken by Hooman Jeddy and Paul Demets. In their experiments with form, different cultural and religious traditions are blended into a phantasmagorical feast for the senses.
