During Film Fest Gent's WSA Intimate Conversations, a small group of participants will engage with experienced composers who will share their views on the art of film, television and games scoring.
Behind award-winning scores and platinum albums lie personal stories, goals and beliefs. What is the value of music in a profoundly changing film industry? How do you develop an authentic artistic fingerprint? What intermediate milestones can help to develop your talent? Starting from their own experiences, Maclaine Diemer initiates an intimate dialogue that touches up a variety of themes, as broad as the scoring industry itself. Based on the interests and questions of the participants, the conversation flows organically from one topic to the next.

In the recording and mixing studio’s of KASK, Gent’s most renowned conservatory, he explores the technical horizon of film scoring and shares advice that is immediately applicable to your own work. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and engage along the way.
Simon Franglen is a highly accomplished, award-winning musician and producer. For over two decades, he has collaborated intensely with American composer James Horner on the celebrated scores for Avatar, The Amazing Spider-Man, Titanic and many others. Succeeding his mentor, Franglen composed the score for Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), for which he won the Discovery of the Year Award at the 2023 World Soundtrack Awards.
