03.04.26 – 25.04.26, Nothing New Under the Sun, A selection of the Collection Flemish Community

TICK TACK presents Nothing New Under the Sun, an exhibition organised in collaboration with the Flemish Community Collection and curated by seven international curators from the Curatorial Studies programme at KASK & Conservatorium.

Starting from the Flemish Community Collection’s depot in Vilvoorde, the exhibition traces the movement of artworks between conservation, storage and presentation, bringing them briefly into the public space of the city of Antwerp. In collaboration with the Department of Culture, Youth and Media, the exhibition showcases works from the Flemish Community Collection, a substantial public collection that preserves, restores and loans works of art to Flemish institutions.

Both sunlight and artificial light are among the most damaging factors for numerous materials and techniques: they can cause fading, discolouration or other forms of degradation. In other words: whenever a work of art is displayed to the public, it is exposed to conditions that damage it. This tension is part of every collection, but is rarely explicitly shown to the public. Nothing New Under the Sun reveals what it means for a collection to be public: not as something static, but as something that is constantly preserved, activated and shared through the systems that sustain it.

As the artworks make their way to TICK TACK’s Brutalist building—De Zonnewijzer (1955, Léon Stynen)—a new site-specific performance by Lily White and dancers Charlotte Dos Santos and Mina Verheyen unfolds in the depot. Like a home exchange, this intervention brings an embodied, living practice into a space that is usually reserved for the collection.
