08.04.25, 20:00, Samuel Van de Velde, Rameau, Debussy & Bartók

A musical homage to baroque composers, combined with modern styles: this is what you can expect from Samuel Van de Velde. Central to this concert is the influence of Baroque masters such as Couperin and Rameau on composers such as Debussy and Bartók. Debussy, inspired by Rameau’s refined harpsichord playing, created nostalgic Baroque forms of his own, such as his sarabande. Bartók, known for his folk music influences, interweaves Baroque elements in works such as Mikrokosmos and En plein air, in which he evokes rural life and natural sounds. We also find nature evocations with Debussy, as in Reflets dans l’eau. Bartók’s Musiques nocturnes builds on this with sounds of the night. Van de Velde closes with music by Nikolai Kapustin: his Variations Op. 41, a unique mix of classical and jazz, is a tribute to Stravinsky’s Sacre du Printemps.
