30.04.25, 20:30, Short Waves Festival: RAW

In 2023, the Polish Short Waves Festival introduced a new competition programme entitled RAW. This was created to give more visibility to vulnerable productions, which often fall outside the canon of classic film festivals thanks to their idiosyncratic signature. This programme thus responds to a broader discussion about who shapes cultural promotion and who defines the boundaries between cinema and media art.

RAW stands for reflection, adventure and research. Expect a combination of animation, multimedia and auteur film that stands at the intersection of cinema and experiment. On the menu: the filming of a Tasmanian tiger, a filmmaker obsessed with ping pong, two cyberspaces - one of which shows a dolphin in a free relationship with fifteen inflatable animals, a haiku, a ghost story and a young man who dreams of one day being able to fly.

  • We All Want A Place to Call Our Own (Daniela Delgado Viteri, EC, ES, 2022, 12’)
  • For Mouna (Spencer James Bogaert, BE, 2022, 14’)
  • Furrie (Lucie Grannec, FR, 2022, 9’)
  • Mars (Yann les Jours, FR, 2023, 1’)
  • Elantra Is Almost A Life (Maja Skjøth Hegelund, US, 2023, 7’)
  • Di Visi di Pietra Memorie (Andrea Bordoli, CH, 2022, 9’)
  • Plaza Melayang (Wey Yinn Teo, MY, 2023, 11’)

The films will be introduced by programmer Wout Biesmans. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmakers Lucie Grannec and Spencer James Bogaert.
