This season, Weird Wednesday breaks out of its test tube to serve you a series of strange, visually stunning cult classics.
We kick things off with this kaleidoscopic sci-fi sensation from legendary director and character designer Keita Amemiya. When the biological killing machine Zeiram escapes from its alien prison and heads for Earth, bounty hunter Iria accepts the job of intercepting and neutralising the monster in Japan. To avoid innocent victims, Iria sets up a Zone — a virtual copy of the environment where she can fight without worry. Two clumsy electricians named Kamiya and Teppei accidentally get caught up in the situation and are teleported into the Zone.
What follows is a race against time and a siege of the senses. With his signature style, which combines futurism and traditional Japanese designs, Amemiya immerses us in this “tokusatsu” spectacle, packed with practical effects, great action, and silly humour. The unique creature design takes the crown in a stylistic universe that (sometimes literally) explodes with originality. All this makes Zeiram an unmissable piece of interdimensional film enjoyment.
This film will be introduced by cult expert Lukas Vindevogel.
