Why this micro-credential?
The rise of artificial intelligence has radically changed the field of design. AI tools are now widely accessible and open up new possibilities for accelerating, broadening and deepening creative processes. At the same time, there is a growing demand for designers who are not only technically skilled, but also able to critically reflect on the impact of this technology. Bias in data, the validity of generated content, sustainability and social consequences: these issues require a thoughtful approach.
This series of lessons supports participants in their dual role as creators and thinkers. You will learn how to integrate AI as a tool in your design practice and how to consciously incorporate ethical considerations into every step of the process. In this way, the course ties in with the current needs of the professional field and broader social themes such as innovation, sustainability and inclusivity.
core themes
This practical series of lessons provides an overview of current AI applications for designers. The focus is on skills that can be directly applied in your own professional practice.
The content is structured around five core areas:
Knowledge base about AI in the design process
Participants will gain insight into how AI plays a role in the design field today and in the future:
- Current and future applications of AI
- Technical concepts, workflows and frameworks relevant to design
Hands-on research skills
The course offers opportunities to try out AI tools for yourself and apply them in a research context:
- Working with generative AI tools for prompt engineering, context and text analysis
- Creating 2D inspirational images and mood boards using AI
Translating research into design
- Translating research results into design
- Approaching design issues methodically and using AI for clear presentation of results
Critical-creative attitude
- Evaluating AI output for bias, validity and ethical aspects
- Actively participating in discussions about responsible AI use
Advanced exploration and experimentation
- Installing and using local open-source AI tools
- Experimenting with 3D modelling in combination with AI
