02.05.24, 20:30, Cliptrip, Music videos by filmmasters

With the creation of MTV in 1981, the simple but brilliant idea of providing music with visuals caused a cultural landslide. The music video became not only an indispensable promotional tool for artists, but also entertaining wallpaper for bored teenagers and a ubiquitous fashion and aesthetic outlet. Now that 'Despacito' has as many YouTube views as people walking the earth, it is high time to give the music video format the credit it deserves. After all, as a hybrid of music and film - and thus perhaps the ultimate audiovisual art form - music videos still too often remain in the shadow of the other two.

KASKcinema is changing this with an evening of stunning, titillating music videos. We serve up clips from the music video canon, as well as understudied gems and obscure videos by established filmmakers - always with a remarkable story to tell. From the stylised highs of David Fincher and Brian De Palma to the dreamscapes of Leos Carax and Spike Jonze, these grandmasters show their most visually stunning sides. Join us and travel through three decades and a whole host of clipkicks.

This evening is accompanied by media scholar Ben De Smet.
