18.02.25, 20:30, C’è un Soffio di Vita Soltanto (2021)
Lucy is an extraordinary 95-year-old Italian nonna. In her house, photos yellowed by time tell of an adolescent boy named Luciano at the time. He was about to go through the most difficult period of his life. The adolescent verse C'è un soffio di vita soltanto (A Breath of Life), from which this documentary also takes its title, reminds Lucy of the fragility and beauty of her own breath of life.
Director duo Matteo Botrugno and Daniele Coluccini stood by Lucy's side for a year to document her life story as the oldest trans woman in Italy. She was husband and wife, son and mother, prisoner in the Dachau concentration camp, girlfriend, lover, sex worker. After liberation from the camp, Lucy was reborn. Raw stories and moments of a serene life alternate. Adventures through Italy with circus and revue performances, her search for a ‘normal’ life in her beloved Turin, her relationship with Patrizia, her adopted daughter who died prematurely, and her surgical sex change in the 1980s. In each decade of the 20th century, she made steps towards a changing identity.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmakers Matteo Botrugno and Daniele Coluccini.
