07.03.24, 20:30, Echoes of Ji.hlava

Under the title Echoes of Ji.hlava, this international documentary film festival presents a number of award-winning films from their latest festival edition. This spirited yet poetic short film programme was put together by young guest curators from the film programme of KASK & Conservatorium. They chose short films by young makers who deal idiosyncratically with the dominant ways of making film. Cinema here represents a form of play to create alternative realities, mould inhospitable landscapes and reveal intimate body visions.

Bulunkul
(2023) by Marie-Violaine Brincard and Olivier Dury takes us to the Tajikistan mountain landscape. Around Lake Bulunkul, a herd of yaks scales one of the coldest inhabited places in the former Soviet Union. In Aslı Baykals Darkroom (2023), children in the eastern Turkish border region explore their surroundings through the viewfinder of their analogue cameras. In Wombs & Brains (2023), filmmaker Lucie Rosenfeldová attempts to deconstruct her relationship to her own body during a gynaecologist's visit.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Lucie Rosenfeldová.
