20.11.24, 20:30, Flesh for Frankenstein (1973)

The man. The legend. The accent. Udo Kier, the German cult actor with steely blue eyes, turned 80 this year, and what better way to celebrate than with an audiovisual reenactment of all his deaths for art (Staging Death) and unsavoury horror about the impermanence of flesh (Flesh for Frankenstein)?

His early — and rather rare — lead role in Flesh for Frankenstein obtained Kier by sharing a flight with Andy Warhol's regular director Paul Morrissey. He cast the late twentysomething as the scientist playing God in this fiercely censored, flamboyant film adaptation of Mary Shelley's primal classic, shot back-to-back with Blood for Dracula and originally in 3D! Salient difference: in his version, Frankenstein is a serial killer married to his sister possessed by creating the perfect Serbian race to obey his commands...

Beforehand, Kier makes his way, lead by lead, through his personal acting history in the short video essay Staging Death (2022), a compilation of his more than 70 deaths on the big and small screen.

This film is introduced in flesh and blood by Kierconnoisseur Tim Maerschand.
