17.01.24, 20:30, The Toxic Avenger (1984)

In fictional Tromaville, wimp Melvin works as a caretaker at a fitness centre. When Melvin is chased out of the window by a sadistic quartet of bullies, he ends up in a barrel full of chemicals. The nuclear waste gives birth to a new kind of superhero who gives toxicity a good name: the monstrously deformed Toxic Avenger! With a mop as his calling card and superhuman strength, the former slacker wipes the floor with his bullies as well as local gangsters and corrupt politicians.

Just as Mickey made the House of Mouse great, Toxie was at the foundation of Troma Entertainment's 'trash cinema' empire with co-founder Lloyd Kaufman as emperor of self-aware low-budget pulp. Around the 1990s, it still seemed perfectly normal for extreme violence and rancid horror comedy to spawn not only a film franchise (three sequels and a loving remake), but also a cartoon series — Toxic Crusaders! — and a toy line. Let yourself be intoxicated by Troma's toxic aroma with this farcical controversial cult classic of the lowest shelf. On picture-perfect brackish VHS!

This film will be introduced by dark prince of pulp cinema Tim Maerschand.
