06.03.25, 20:30, Viet and Nam (2024)

In the depths of the underground coal mines, Viêt and Nam, both young miners, cherish the fleeting moments together, knowing that one of them will soon leave for a new life overseas. In the shadowy forests of Vietnam, they find and lose each other in a journey through the traces of war, colonialism and the intimate tension of desire.

With Viet and Nam, filmmaker Minh Quý Trương returns to the heart of his motherland to explore the lines between memory, identity and landscape. He interweaves personal reflections with broader themes of history and ecology, with the landscape acting as a silent witness to human emotions and collective trauma. In the hushed, poetic images and whispered voices of his characters, the filmmaker explores how the past continues to resonate in the present.

With an understated yet deeply poignant style, Viet and Nam sketches a map of human connection and shows how memories, like the landscape, remain in constant flux.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Minh Quý Trương.
