This year’s campaign image for the MIRY Concert Hall was created by Camille Dochy, who has just graduated with a Master’s degree in visual arts.

A sacred animal, war hero, brilliant navigator, beloved companion, disease carrier, and flying rat – few animals embody as many contradictions as the pigeon.

In a series of works, Camille Dochy follows the pigeon through these shifting meanings. Through colourful drawings and embroidered pieces, the bird appears in playful scenes inspired by literature, board games, dance, and music.

In each of these scenes, the pigeon takes centre stage. It becomes a player, dancer, reader, and musician. Sometimes humorous, sometimes touching, sometimes simply present.

By giving the pigeon a place within these familiar scenes, Dochy invites us to look at it anew – not merely as a symbol, a nuisance, or a problem, but as an animal with a character of its own. Perhaps our changing perception of the pigeon ultimately reveals as much about ourselves as it does about the bird.
