19.05.25, 20:00, Novus String Quartet, Mendelssohn, Janáček & Brahms
Anyone who thought Korea has produced only stylised, pre-chewed K-pop clones in recent years has been living under a rock and should hereby apologise to the Novus String Quartet. Founded at the Korean National University of Arts in 2007, the Novus String Quartet has since become one of the leading chamber music ensembles in Korea.
Their breakthrough in Europe came in 2012, when they won second prize at the prestigious ARD Music Competition. Two years later, the quartet took first prize at the Salzburg Mozart Competition. Since then, the quartet has been filling international concert halls, captivating audiences and critics alike.
They perform Mendelssohn (first string quartet), Janáček (also first string quartet) and Brahms (I thought I detected a theme, but alas — although musically in no way inferior — the second string quartet).
