Hendrickje Van Kerckhove, teacher

Hendrickje Van Kerckhove studied at the Antwerp Conservatory and then perfected her skills at the Operastudio Vlaanderen and the Muziekkapel Koningin Elisabeth, where she was coached by Susanne Eken and José Van Dam. Following the 2005 world premiere of Philippe Boesmans' opera Julie, Hendrickje was first heard at La Monnaie. Meanwhile, she sang there Blonde (Entführung), Ernestine (M. Choufleuri), Sophie (Werther), Blumenmädchen (Parsifal), Dircé (Médée/Cherubini), Karolka (Jenufa), Shéhérazade (Sindbad), Johanna Barker (Sweeney Todd), Frankenstein (Justine) and Dialogues des Carmélites (Soeur Constance).

At Vlaamse Opera, she collaborated on Don Giovanni (Zerlina), Rheingold (Woglinde), Dialogues des Carmélites (Soeur Constance), La Sonnambula (Lisa), L'amour des Trois Oranges (Linette) and Così fan tutte (Despina). In 2008, she celebrated her debut at the Theater An der Wien as Soeur Constance (Dialogues des Carmélites). This was quickly followed by the roles Maja (Die Besessenen) and Najade (Ariadne auf Naxos).

Other important houses where she has made her appearance since then include: Gran Teatro del Liceu Barcelona as Blonde (Entführung aus dem Serail), Bayerische Staatsoper München as Oscar (Un ballo in maschera), Natalia/Medusa (Medusa) and Voce dal cielo (Don Carlo), Staatsoper unter der Linden Berlin (Al gran sole carico d'Amore), DNO Amsterdam as Norma Jean (Waiting for Ms Monroe) and Sandmännchen/Taumännchen (Hänsel und Gretel), Opera Tel-Aviv as Blonde (Entführung aus dem Serail), Festival Aix-en-Provence as Kristin (Julie), Opéra de Nantes as Elena (Il Cappello di Paglia di Firenze) and Opéra national du Rhin Strasbourg as Despina (Cosí fan tutte), Adèle (Fledermaus), Claire (Quai Ouest) and Clorinda (La Cenerentola).

Hendrickje sang conducted by Zubin Mehta, Philippe Herreweghe, Christophe Rousset, Kazushi Ono, Enrique Mazzola, Paul Daniel, Patrick Davin, Andreas and Christoph Spering, Bertrand de Billy, Theodor Guschlbauer, Louis Langrée, Walter Weller, David Zinman, Hervé Niquet, Ingo Metzmacher and Ottavio Dantone and worked with directors such as Christopher Loy, Luc Bondy, Ivo Van Hove, Robert Carsen, Kasper Holten, David MacVicar, Harry Kupfer, Romeo Castellucci, Katie Mitchell, the duo Leiser Caurier and Guy Joosten. 

Furthermore, she performed with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, the Brussels Philharmonic, Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen, Orchestre Philharmoinque Royal de Liège, the National Orchestra of Belgium, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Camerata Academica Salzburg, the RSO/ORF Wien, das Neue Orchester, the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, the Residentieorkest Den Haag, l'Orchestre des Pays de la Loire and Le Concert Spirituel.

She has performed as a soloist in venues including the Musikverein Wien, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Megaron Athens, Théâtre des Champs Elysées Paris, Bozar Brussels, de Singel Antwerp, Concertgebouw Brugge and the Filharmonie Luxembourg.

In 2008, ECHO (European Concert Hall Organisation) elected her "Rising Star".

Meanwhile, Hendrickje Van Kerckhove also built up a solid reputation as a song interpreter and released several CDs with pianists Kristel Kessels, Inge Spinette and Nicolas Callot.

Hendrickje teaches voice at KASK & Conservatorium Gent.
