Joren Elsen, teacher

Joren Elsen plays with world-renowned ensembles specialising in both historical performance practice (Collegium Vocale, Vox Luminis, B’Rock, Il Gardellino, Capriccio Stravagante, the Orchestra of the 18th Century, InAlto) and contemporary music (Ensemble Modern, SPECTRA, I Solisti, deCompagnie). He has collaborated with dance group Not Standing and BOZAR on Berio's Sequenza and, as a freelancer, has played with symphony and opera orchestras in Belgium and the Netherlands (including the Flanders Symphony Orchestra, La Monnaie, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra).

Joren studied with Jan Smets in Antwerp and Mike Svoboda, Charles Toet and Catherine Motuz in Basel (Switzerland). He also took masterclasses at home and abroad. He has worked with conductors such as Philippe Herreweghe, Simon Rattle, Skip Sempé and Ricardo Chailly and can be heard on CDs with B'Rock, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Pluto Ensemble, Flanders Symphony Orchestra, Il Gardellino & the Flemish Radio Choir. Since September 2022, he has also been affiliated with the Conservatorium van Amsterdam as a teacher of historical trombone.
