27.05.25, 20:30, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994)

Drag queens, the Australian outback, ABBA! Three irresistible ingredients with which director Stephan Elliott breathed new life into Australian cinema in 1994 with the queer film classic The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. In this iconic road movie, we follow Bernadette, a trans woman who longs for some joy in her life. Together with drag performers Mitzi and Felicia, she travels through the rugged outback in their tour bus ‘Priscilla’. Their colourful outfits and extravagant personalities clash not only with the arid desert, but also with the narrow-minded mentality of the locals.

For the last Film-Plateau screening of the season, we take you on the campiest road trip of all time. Inspired by the lives of drag legends Cindy Pastel, Lady Bump and Strykermyer, Priscilla turns the Australian macho culture à la Crocodile Dundee upside down. A feel-good classic that, more than 30 years after its release, still feels larger than life.
