Angelo Tijssens (°Blankenberge 1986) studied theater in Antwerp. He wrote several short films and is co-screenwriter of two multi-award-winning films by Lukas Dhont. With Girl (2018) and Close (2022) they won, among other awards, the Camera d'Or, the Queer Palm and the Prix du Jury at the Cannes Film Festival. Both films were nominated for a Golden Globe and Close had a chance to win an Oscar. For his contribution to Flemish cinema, Angelo received the Ultima for Audiovisual Arts in 2023.
Angelo has also been part of the artistic core of the internationally renowned company Ontroerend Goed for more than a decade, one of the artists in residence at NTGent.
In 2022, his debut novel De Randen (The Edges), now translated into five languages, was published, nominated for the Bronze Owl and winner of the jury prize of the Prix du Roman Gay (France). His second book will be published in 2024, he is working with Lukas Dhont on his third film and wrote the screenplay for Julian, based on the book by Fleur Pierets.
