Studies

Bruno De Busschere studied euphonium at the Royal Conservatory (HOGENT) with Gustaaf Devolder. After obtaining a Master for euphonium with highest distinction, he also followed a successful period of study on trombone. The Master for trombone was obtained at the Royal Conservatory (HOGENT) in the classes of Michel Tilkin and Luc Devleeschhouwer, in addition to taking lessons with Ivan Meylemans at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.

Orchestra experience

Like most professional brass players, the story begins with high-level (semi-)amateur orchestras: the Royal Concert Band Vooruit of home town Harelbeke on bass trombone and euphonium, later joined by the Brass Band Midden-Brabant as principal euphonium. The ensemble is a breeding ground for professional brass players such as Ben Haemhouts, Jeroen Berwaerts, Wim Vanhasselt, Steven Devolder,... Under the direction of Benny Wiame, prizes are regularly won at national and international level.

As a result, from 1998 Bruno regularly plays freelance on both euphonium and bass trumpet with the BRTN Philharmonic Orchestra (now Brussels Philharmonic), the Philharmonic (now Antwerp Symphony Orchestra), the Symphony Orchestra of La Monnaie and the Limburg Symphony Orchestra in the Netherlands (now Filharmonie Zuidnederland).

In 2000, he became solo trombonist with the Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen and in 2001 euphonium player with the Royal Navy Music Band.

Both jobs were combined until Bruno De Busschere was appointed solo trombonist (alto and tenor trombone) with the National Orchestra of Belgium (now Belgian National Orchestra) in 2008. A position he holds to this day.

Chamber music

On euphonium, he can be heard on several CDs by Wim Mertens. Besides productions with the Hermes Ensemble conducted by Koen Kessels, he also worked for some time as trombonist with the Ensemble Emanon / Vlaams Sinfonietta conducted by Raf De Keninck, with whom he made CD recordings of Frank Nuyts' Chamber Symphony and Henryk Gorecki's Kleines Requiem für eine Polka. In the field of music theatre, trombonist realised productions with the music Lod conducted by Dick Van der Harst, as well as with Het Net conducted by Josse De Pauw.
