At the Royal Conservatory of Ghent Marc Kerckhof graduated with a major in clarinet and he also received the diploma for chamber music with highest distinction. During his studies, he showed already a lot of interest in the bass clarinet. At the Conservatory of Rotterdam he specialized on the bass clarinet and graduated with the diploma performing artist with a special mention for chamber music. Later he obtained from the Conservatory of Brussels a teaching diploma.

In 1980 he was laureate of the National Music Competition PRO CIVETATE (now known as Belfius Classics). Marc Kerckhof is soloist in the Royal Band of the Belgian Guides since 1995. Besides the bass clarinet, he regularly plays the contra-bass clarinet in the orchestra. As bass clarinet player, he performs regularly with renowned symphonic orchestras; mainly with the Symphonic Orchestra of Flanders and the Brussels Philharmonic (Flemish Radio Orchestra).

He played chamber music with the Arriaga String Quartet and with the Ciurlionis String Quartet. With the Ciurlionis String Quartet and Eddy Vanoosthuyse on clarinet he recorded the Quintetsatz , for clarinet, bassethorn and string trio.
He is a member of The International Clarinets, the prestigious clarinet choir conducted by Eddy Vanoosthuyse. He is also bass clarinet teacher at the Academy for Music and Word of Izegem.
