Peter Monsaert studied Germanic languages at the RUG and audiovisual arts at KASK. After his studies, he started working as a videast and director for theater and film. He was the inspiration and driving force behind a number of community projects. These included Vitrinetelevisie, a street television project in Ghent's Macharius neighborhood, and TV DELUXE, a similar project commissioned by VictoriaDeluxe in Ghent's Dampoort neighborhood. In theater, he worked on his own projects at theater Antigone, Bronks, NTGent, Kopergietery, Compagnie Cecilia and Studio Orka. The performances Fimosis (2006) for theater Antigone and Chasse Patate (2017) and Craquelé (2019) for Studio Orka were nominated for the theater festival, which annually awards the best performances of the season. His feature-length debut Offline garnered praise at home and abroad. More than 15 awards were the result, topping 3 ensors, 4 awards in Amiens and a crown as best director at the Saint Petersburg International Film Festival. 

His second feature Le Ciel Flamand was selected for Toronto, San Sebastian, London, Rotterdam, Gothenburg and some 25 other international festivals, won 2 ensors and was awarded best film of 2016 by both the screenwriters' guild and the directors' union. Nowhere is his third film and opened the Ostend Film Festival. The film won the award for best feature at the Rhode Island Film Festival and the audience award at the Arras Festival. Peter Monsaert is currently in full swing with the pre-production of 1989, his fourth film, a European co-production with France and Poland. He is also planning a new theater production for Compagnie Cecilia and a comedy TV series of his own.
