One of the most versatile Belgian violinists of his generation, Wibert Aerts has built up a special reputation in the modern-day repertoire for violin. He studied with André Delcourte, Philippe Hirshhorn, Koji Toyoda and Igor Oistrakh, among others. The UK magazine The Strad wrote "...but Belgian player Wibert Aerts has crafted this disc to perfection. Violin Faces' has a broad mix of works dating from 1927 to 2001, all highly coloured and well contrasted, and performed with tender delicacy by Aerts, whose sweet-singing tone ensures that even in its grittiest moments this music never grates".

As a member of the internationally acclaimed chamber music quintet "Het Collectief" he has given concerts in Concertgebouw Amsterdam, DeSingel, De Doelen Rotterdam, Muziekgebouw aan t' IJ, MC2 Grenoble, Konzerthaus Wien, Arsenal Metz...) and at important festivals (Festival van Vlaanderen, Klarafestival, Festival de Saintes (France), Ars Musica, Campos do Jordao Festival).

In May 2013 he played as a soloist his debut concert in Germany in the Tonhalle of Düsseldorf with "Grail Theâtre" by K.Saariaho. Since then he has played violin concertos by Bram van Camp, Mathias Coppens, Charlotte Bray, Arvo Pärt (Tabula Rasa), Hartmann (Concerto Funèbre) with the Symphony Orchestra of Flanders, Hermes Ensemble, Notabu Ensemble and Camerata de Murcia, among others.

A number of important composers have dedicated works to him, including Luc Brewaeys, Bram van Camp and Kee-Yong Chong. Since 1998 he has also formed a duo with the Spanish pianist Caridad Galindo and has performed with Reinbert De Leeuw, Alasdair Beatson, Yura Lee, Roel Dieltiens and Gordan Nikolic, among others. He has ten internationally acclaimed CDs on his repertoire (Fuga Libera, Eaon, Klara, ZigZag and Etcetera-Explicit Records).
