After submitting your application form, the admissions officer will check whether all requested documents have been submitted and whether you meet the admission requirements. If all conditions are met, your file will be sent to the orientation committee of your chosen programme. If documents are missing or if you do not meet the admission requirements, we will notify you.
Documents needed
- Identification: ID, passport, residence permit, etc.
We need to be able to read your name clearly on the scan or photo. - Original diploma and supplements
Be sure to check out the info on authenticating your diploma below. - Translation of your diploma and supplements if they are not in Dutch, French, English or German. This must be an official translation into one of these four languages (preferred: English), made by a sworn translator.
- Master proposal or motivation and portfolio
KASK & Conservatorium only accepts true and authentic diploma documents to avoid document fraude. Therefore, depending on the country your diploma and transcripts were issued, you will need either a certification stamp, an apostille stamp or a legalisation stamp. Without having submitted a physical copy containing the original of this stamp, we cannot issue a formal invitation to enroll or enroll you.
To put things clear: you do not need this stamp on your documents to apply and do an interview/audition, but you will need to submit it before you enroll or wish to receive an invitation to enroll. Obtaining these authentications can take up quite a bit of time, so take care of this as soon as you can.

If you passed an orientation test, you may still need to submit physical documents to the admissions officer. Depending on the country where the documents were issued, those documents must have certain stamps. Only on the basis of these authenticated documents can we issue a formal invitation to enrol.
You are required to upload your diploma and transcripts in original language. However, we can only read Dutch, French, English and German documents. If your diploma in original language is not issued in of these 4 languages, you will also be required to upload an official translation into one of these 4 languages (English is preferred) by a sworn translator.
Applications without a master proposal will not be admissible.
Do you have more questions? paul.lamont@hogent.be MAIL
You provide us with a master proposal or motivation in combination with a portfolio. Based on this, you will receive an invitation for an interview and/or an audition.
The proposal contains the starting point and outline of your artistic research for the master's programme. It is a motivation written from your personal history as an artist or art student.
The document should be between 1,500 and 2,000 words (750 words for graphic design) and should contain the following elements:
part 1
A working title and a personal statement as to why you are a suitable candidate for the programme. What do you hope to achieve during your studies at KASK & Conservatorium and how does this relate to your career aspirations? Give details of your subject interests, relevant experiences and abilities in the arts.
part 2
Discuss the research question(s) you want to develop in your artistic master's project. Describe what interests, ideas and media you want to explore through the master's programme and how your master's project would contribute to achieving your long-term goals. Mention artistic and/or theoretical references. Illustrate how you would initiate this master project, both practically and technically and in terms of content. Identify a possible theme for your master's thesis and explain how this thesis could support you in your artistic process.
The master's proposal describes in general terms what you hope to achieve through artistic research and will often already form the (general) basis for the student's master's projects and thesis. (This does not mean, however, that your master's proposal pins you down to an immutable position or basis for your master's studies, as any artistic process is and should be open to change and evolution).
part 3
Include all relevant info that can support your motivation and research project. The master proposal is a central part of your application and will also be a central part of the interview or audition with the orientation committee.
Our master programmes are at all times deepening and inquisitive/researching. The master programme no longer contains studio courses or training and candidates entering the master must therefore be able to demonstrate that they have sufficient experience in film making. In order for us to evaluate this, the application portfolio must contain at least one one well-developed single-screen film of any length of which the candidate is the sole director.
You must submit a portfolio at two stages of the application procedure:
- A digital portfolio when submitting the online application. You must upload links to an online portfolio or upload a PDF portfolio in the application form. We do not accept portfolios in physical format (usb, DVD, paper ...).
- A physical portfolio at the time of the interview (not for classical music, composition, jazz & pop, music production). This may be combined with the digital portfolio you have already submitted. Portable digital portfolios are allowed here. During the interview, you may give a short presentation of your portfolio. Please note that each interview lasts about 25 minutes.
The artistic portfolio is a presentation of artistic evolution during previous studies or in the past 5 years. It can include documentation of artistic work as well as reproductions of artistic work. You limit yourself to relevant work (artistic work relevant to your artistic process, your artistic goals and master proposal).
Applications without a portfolio are inadmissible.

Belgian students can apply for a scholarship with the Belgian government. Foreign students cannot apply for a scholarship with the Belgian government. If your country has a bilateral agreement with Belgium, a scholarship under this agreement is a possibility, but it must be applied for in your country of origin through the competent authorities.
school of arts scholarship for non-EU students
Every academic year, KASK & Conservatorium awards a maximum of 6 new scholarships. The scholarship is awarded as a remission of tuition fees.
The core requirement is that you have a nationality that does not belong to the European Economic Area and that you do not belong to categories 1-7 of students exempt from the higher tuition fee (cf. exempt categories).
The scholarship is not awarded on the basis of artistic merit during the orientation test, but on the basis of a motivation letter and additional certificates illustrating your personal or socio-economic situation.
You apply for a scholarship during your application for the master's programme (or switch or preparatory programme) and before the deadline of the first session. Candidates applying for sessions other than Session 1 (April) cannot be considered for the scholarship.
Applications for scholarship are kept confidential and members of the orientation committee have no access to or knowledge of these scholarship applications.
In the month of June, the scholarship committee reviews all scholarship applications submitted. You will hear no later than the beginning of July whether you will receive the scholarship.
