start test

9:00 on the first day of the session.

Campus Bijloke
Bijlokekaai 7, 9000 Ghent

You will receive detailed planning on the first day of the session.

preparatory dossier

Each candidate puts together a preparatory dossier consisting of several parts (personal data, written motivation, portfolio and specific assignments). All texts of the dossier must be typed. This preparatory dossier will be brought along on the first day of the test. Candidates who have little or no artistic work can also take part in the test.

personal details

  • recent passport photograph
  • a curriculum vitae listing past studies, artistic and other activities,...

written motivation

A written motivation regarding the choice of study and school (maximum 1 A4 sheet).

portfolio

The candidate puts together a folder with a representative selection of their personal work: autonomous artistic work and school assignments (drawings, photographs, sketches, painted studies, photographs of sculptures or spatial work, graphic work, texts, poems, music, computer prints, stage acts, performances or other creations,...). Candidates are strongly advised to bring not only reproductions of their own work (e.g. photographs), but also their own work itself if possible.

specific assignments

The dossier is completed with the following written assignments on A4 format:

  • A detailed written motivation about a contemporary artist or designer that appeals to you, with an accompanying image (minimum 1).
  • An image of an original textile product (garment, furniture, design objects, etc.) with a motivation as to why you chose it.
written test

The candidate must provide a written answer to a general question on a current social, cultural and/or artistic issue. The aim is to allow the examination board to get an idea of the candidate's prior theoretical education, gauge language skills and their ability to formulate an opinion, develop a line of reasoning and edit a short written text.

motivation interview

During an individual interview, the candidate's motivation towards art education in general and the specific field of study in particular will be examined. The preparatory dossier forms the basis for an interview and questioning. It is important that the candidate can explain the elements in the dossier and clarify the study choice and expectations.

Interests, general and cultural knowledge, thinking skills, creative attitudes and insight into image-making are probed. Important qualities here are: critical sense, commitment, drive, love of art and design, perseverance, self-discipline and sense of humour.

practical test

Candidates work independently on the written test and practical tests. They will receive a time schedule for the interview.

On the day of the test, you will need this:

  • preparatory file
  • writing materials
  • drawing and painting materials, basic drawing paper (A4 & A3 size)
  • coloured pencils, markers, different kinds of sticky tape (including coloured ones)
  • Different kinds of paper, old magazines, packaging, etc.
  • Piece of textile that you find fascinating from texture, transparency, technique etc.

drawing by observation

The assignment will be announced on the day of the test. This test gauges the candidate's aptitude for the subject of drawing: spatial insight, detail, proportions, perspective, composition, rendering of matter and the extent to which one can be trained artistically.

design drawing

The assignment will be announced on the day of the test. This test examines the candidate's imagination and degree of maturity in anticipating an assignment.

The candidate seeks as many substantive and formal solutions as possible in function of the textile design subject.

material understanding

The assignment will be announced on the day of the test. This assignment examines the extent to which the candidate can intelligently describe, trace and dissect a piece of textile.

proclamation and feedback

Please note that locations and times are subject to change. Changes will be communicated on the spot.

On the last day of the session, there will be deliberation and proclamation, including a feedback moment. The proclamation will take place on campus and attendance is compulsory.
