22.10.24, 20:30, Camera Sutra (of de Bleekgezichten) (1973)

Quite a few Fugitive Cinema productions served as cinematic translations of the May ‘68 protest. The best example is Camera sutra of de Bleekgezichten, a militant film by De Hert that sharply criticises Belgium's bourgeois hypocrisy in characteristic Fugitive collage style. Through a montage of reportage footage, De Hert first argues that beer festivals, sports, Ijzer pilgrimages and national parades keep the people sweet in order to distract attention from the real problems in Belgium and the world, such as the curtailment by capitalism, church and state, social injustice and post-colonial exploitation.
