Your personal practice
The individuality of sculpture lies in the physical object, which forms the basis for artistic practice. That practice is different for each student, as we take your artistic personality as the starting point for developing individual artistic expression. The lecturers encourage you to seek a personal approach to contemporary sculpture as soon as possible. You undertake this quest in constant consultation with the tutors and complement it with the theory lessons that focus on the history and theory of sculpture.
A whole range of techniques and form study form your different skills towards a great artistic freedom. As an undergraduate, you follow a compulsory number of basic techniques taught in class. These primarily involve moulding and casting in plaster and stone carving.
In addition, there is a range of different techniques that you choose according to your own artistic work. Moulding with rubbers, plastics, digital 3D techniques,... Throughout the bachelor's programme, you also do form study. This consists of modelling from live models, and you also practice placing sculptural objects in space.
Range of visions
All teachers teaching in the sculpture pathway are themselves artistically active. Some also conduct research. Each in their own way, they position themselves within contemporary sculpture. Within the studio, this creates a multitude of perspectives on the medium, a wide range of visions, which are constantly under discussion. All teachers have a technical speciality that they can teach students. For specialised techniques, you sometimes work outside the school.
After your training
The study programme is aimed at future artists, who can start their own artistic practice upon completion. Graduates possess a wide range of basic techniques and can also go on to work in museums, as artists' assistants, in set, stand and exhibition construction and in specialised studios (foundries, stone cutting workshops, restoration). After finishing an educational master's degree, some alumni also enter the teaching profession.

If you want to apply for an academic bachelor's degree, you must first pass an artistic admission test. To enter the master's programme, you will take part in an orientation test. These are organised several times per academic year.
