Although barely past their wooden anniversary, the Belgian Desguin Quartet has already played its way into the hearts of many a European melomaniac. Not averse to a dash of jazz or theater, the foursome however opts for iron repertoire for their passage in MIRY. Haydn’s fourth string quartet from his twentieth opus number is an absolute cornerstone of string literature, one that would set the tone for the next two centuries. For instance: Antonin Dvořák’s twelfth contribution to the genre. The melodies may echo the American countryside, during the writing the composer says he was mentally assisted by ‘dear Papa Haydn’.
