22.02.24, 20:30, KASKkrakers: Vergetenschap

KASKkrakers offers a sampling of brilliant short film work. Alumni of the KASK & Conservatorium fiction, documentary and animation film programmes brought to the front of the classroom (read movie theater) to present their new films. This edition focuses on issues of science. A variety of forms, styles and themes explore the human relationship to knowledge, skill and its own mortality.

Fikiri
(2023, 19') by Louisiana Mees-Fongang outlines the life of a displaced man studying to become a nurse in Belgium. This is how he comes into contact with a Margitte, a woman suffering from Alzheimer's. In Microscopic Love (2023, 9'), Emilien Dubuc delves into his petri dish to reveal hidden worlds. Double Exposure (2020, 14') by Ingel Vailka transports us to the Ukrainian town of Slavutych. Built to accommodate affected workers after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, the town can no longer offer refuge to its inhabitants due to economic problems. Then, with animated film E6-D7 (2023, 15') by Eno Swinnen, we hang out in a futuristic hospital setting where a robot performs operations. Finally, Harm Dens and Meltse van Coillie's Nocturnus (2022, 21') throws us into the persistent darkness of an Arctic village. There, a team of researchers tries to decipher the mystery of human hibernation.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the films' makers.
